Old City Walls are the walls that encircled the Medieval Town of Macau. It was erected by the Portuguese as a physical defense against invasions.

The earliest part of Macau's city walls was built as early as 1569. Following the successful repel of a Dutch invasion in 1622, the Ming authorities approved the further construction of military fortifications to reinforce the walls.

Maps from 1632 shows that Macau was already well protected, with walls lining the north, east and south. In addition, fortresses were built at strategic hills to provide further protection.

Today only a small section of the old city walls remains. You can view it next to Na Tcha Temple.
