Qinghai Province 青海省 is a province on the western part of China. Named after Qinghai Lake, it borders Gansu Province to the northeast, Sichuan Province to the southeast, Tibet Autonomous Region to the southwest and Xinjiang Autonomous Region to the northwest. At 721,000 sq km (278,000 sq mi) it is the largest province and third largest region behind Xinjiang, Tibet and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Qinghai Province has a population of only 5.6 million people, ranking it 30th. Its 2009 GDP stood at CNY 108.1 billion (30th position) and its per capita GDP was CNY 19,407, the 27th position. The provincial capital is Xining.

The source of the Yangtze River, Huanghe River and Mekong River are all within Qinghai Province. Within the province is Qinghai Lake, the largest saltwater lake in China and the second largest in the world.

Going to Qinghai Province

You can fly to Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province, from most of the major cities in China. Alternatively there are also train services from the major cities. The city of Golmud also receives some flights.
