The Giant Panda Breeding Center, or officially Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, is a world-renowned ecological conservation base in a northern suburb of Chengdu. The base occupies 105 hectares of rolling hills and lakes. The Giant Panda Breeding Center is dedicated to the conservation of endangered species of China, including the giant panda and the red panda.
The giant panda has been around for a long time, since the time of the saber-toothed cats. So it is very much a living fossil that has survived since the Pleistocene period, while other species have become extinct. Naturally solitary animals, the giant pandas live in the remote bamboo forests in the high mountains. As their habitat is encroached by development and deforestation, their living space has become fragmented.

The Giant Panda Museum at the research centre is the first giant panda museum in the world. It also has the largest collection of butterflies in Chengdu. The Panda Story Cinema provides an interesting account of the natural history of the pandas.
Within Panda Adventure are over 400 kinds of trees including ginkgo, chinar, yulan and willow as well as many subspecies of bamboo, the favourite food of the giant pandas. In addition to the giant panda, Panda Adventure is also home to the cute and agile red pandas, white and black swans, and blue peacocks. In the sky are thousands of white and grey egrets.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
