The temple and cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion are a World Heritage Site in the city of Qufu, in Shandong Province, China. Qufu is the birthplace of Confucius, and was also the capital of the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period from around the 8th century BC to the first half of the 5th century BC.
The Temple of Confucius was built in 478 to commemorate him. Having been destroyed and rebuilt over time, the temple complex today totals more than a hundred buildings. The cemetery where Confucius was laid to rest also holds the remains of 100,000 of his descendants.
The family home of Confucius, originally a humble abode, has been developed into a gigantic aristocratic mansion with a total of 152 buildings. Its outstanding artistic and historic character is due to the devotion of successive Chinese emperors over it in the past two thousand years.
The temple and cemetery of Confucius, along with the Kong Family Mansion were inscribed during the 18 session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Phuket, Thailand, on 12-17 December, 1994.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
