Chow Thye Road, or Jalan Chow Thye, is a minor road in George Town. It links Burmah Road to Irrawaddy Road. Chow Thye Road has an extension towards MBf Tower and Northam Tower.
Chow Thye Road was created in the early 20th century, when the area was redeveloped with brick housing. The houses along the road were originally residential in nature, but many has since been redeveloped to house businesses, particularly those in the food and beverage line. Among them include (in alphabetical order) Isaribi Japanese Restaurant, Ivy's Kitchen, JenxDan Lifestyle Café, Junction Restaurant and That Little Wine Bar. The main landmark at Chow They Road is Burmah Road Gospel Hall, which (at time of writing, June 2011) is undergoing expansion to house their Chinese and English-language assemblies.
Chow Thye Road is believed to have been named after Loke Chow Thye, the brother to Loke Chow Kit, whose name appears in the Chow Kit neighbourhood of Kuala Lumpur. It is not known exactly when he was born (estimates being between 1888 and 1908), but we know that he passed away in Penang in 1931.1,2

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
