Chowrasta Road, George Town, Penang (12 October 2019)
Chowrasta Road (Malay: Jalan Chowrasta;
Penang Hokkien: Ke1ling3na1 Ban3san1) is a road in
George Town, Penang. It is one of the four roads surrounding the Chowrasta Market, a market which was established by the Indian community in 19th century George Town. The name "chowrasta" itself means "four crossroads - I suppose it refers to the cross roads formed by Chowrasta Road,
Kuala Kangsar Road,
Tamil Street and
Penang Road.
Chowrasta Road and in fact the entire Chowrasta area including Tamil Street, is known in
Hokkien as Ke1leng2na4 Ban3san1, meaning "South Indian Market".
