Convent Pulau Tikus (21 November 2019)
Convent Pulau Tikus (GPS: 5.43377, 100.30933) is a girls' school in
Pulau Tikus, Penang. It comprises the primary school, SK Convent Pulau Tikus, and the now defunct secondary school SM Convent Pulau Tikus.
As with Pulau Tikus itself, the convent schools of that district was established by the Catholic missionaries who served the Eurasian parish of the
Church of the Immaculate Conception, in particular the nuns of the convent who in the early part of the 20th century. Classes were interrupted by the Second World War in 1941. When it resumed in 1945, the pupils got to continue classes as though the four-year interruption was nothing more than an unpleasant dream.
The Pulau Tikus Convent schools became a government-aided school from 2005. This ensured its survival, but that also meant relegating its missionary legacy to history.
