Our Romantic Getaway at Copthorne Orchid Hotel (11 June 2016)


If you are planning a romantic getaway with your significant other, Copthorne Orchid Hotel has something for you. A few days ago, my wife and I had the pleasure of test driving this package, courtesy of the hotel.

Copthorne Orchid's Romantic Getaway Package includes welcome drinks for two, a one-night stay for two in the seafront deluxe room with direct seaview, a four-course Western set dinner for two on the first night of arrival, flower petals decoration on the bed and bathtub, and buffet breakfast for two at the Terrace Bay Restaurant.

On arriving at the hotel, we were welcome by Miss Carroll Wong, the Director of Sales & Marketing, and Miss Sally Lai, the Public Relations Manager. I also met Miss Julie Ch'ng, the Executive Assistant to the General Manager. They are all such lovely, welcoming people, and they make my wife and I feel most at home at the hotel.

Candlelight dinner at Copthorne Orchid Hotel (11 June 2016)


Although the package specified a "deluxe room", to us, it looked more like a suite, with its own separate living room. The room is on the second floor of the hotel, and has a panoramic view of the sea and coastline.

Dinner that night was - to my surprise - by candlelight, which added so much to the romance of the evening. The table was specially set up for us, with red tablecloth and napkins. Both my wife and I opted for fish, and the chef himself came to our table to serve us. It was a four-course meal that started with salad, followed by soup, the main course and dessert, and ends with either coffee or tea (but we stopped at dessert, as neither my wife nor I can handle coffee or tea so late in the evening).

The main course might sound rather pedestrian - it was fish and chips - but my, I have rarely tasted fish and chips so nicely done. The fish is crisp on the outside, not hard, and the flesh is white and just nicely cooked.

After a good night's sleep, we woke up early the next morning, just in time to catch the sunrise. We decided to go for a stroll along the beach. It was a magical moment for the two of us, being there, and watching the sun rising in the horizon. The area was a cove. There is a line of breakers on one side, so the wave reaching shore was quite gentle.

Time moves fast when you are having fun, and the clock ticked away swiftly. After a long and relaxing breakfast (I love the chicken, cooked with sautéed mushrooms, and the mashed potatoes, such surprisingly tasty mashed potatoes, of all things), we retired to our room for a while. I managed to have a swim in the pool, and then it was time for us to get ready for check out.

It was indeed a lovely romantic weekend for my wife and me. Thank you to Copthorne Orchid Hotel Penang for having treated us so nicely.
