Larnaca (Greek: Λάρνακα) is the third largest city in Cyprus after Nicosia and Limassol. Located on the southern coast of the island, it has a population of 72,000 people (2011 estimate). The city is today a commercial port and tourist destination. It is also home to the largest airport in Cyprus.

August is the hottest month in Larnaca. That's when the average high temperature rises to 32.7°C (90.3°F). Coldest month is February, when the average low temperature drops to 6.9°C (44.4°F). December is the wettest month in Larnaca, receiving 94.6 mm (3.72 in) of precipitation.

Larnaca dates back to the 14th century BC. It was founded by Mycenaean-Achaean Greeks. The city during ancient times was known as Kition. The city is prone to earthquake, having suffered a number of them over the ages.

The political situation in Cyprus has worked to the benefit of Larnaca, where the loss of the Port of Famagusta as well as the closure of the Nicosia International Airport all helped to divert port and air activities to Larnaca.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
