Dataran Teratai is the lily pond at the
Penang Botanic Gardens. It is part of the (rather controversial) beautification project of the gardens. Dataran Teratai occupies the site which was formerly the parking area at the entrance of the gardens. It is a manicured lawn housing seven ponds and two fountains.

Dataran Teratai is named after the different types of water lilies and lotuses. Perhaps the star attraction of Dataran Teratai is the
Victoria amazonica, popularly called the giant water lily, which comes from the Amazon River basin. The leaves of the giant water lily can grow to 3 meters (9.8 ft) in diameter, although in most gardens, it is usually not more than a meter.
Dataran Teratai was officially opened by Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen on
11 June, 2011, at the launch of the 1 Malaysia Parks and Gardens Carnival held at the Penang Botanic Gardens.
