Dato Kramat Market (28 February 2013)
Dato Kramat Market (GPS: 5.41326, 100.31096) is one of the older markets in
George Town. It is located near the junction of
York Road. It marks the end of
Jalan Air Itam and the beginning of
Dato Kramat Road. This section of town is known in
Hokkien as See1 Kham1 Tiam3, meaning "Row of Four shophouses". I have to say I am not sure whether the four shophouses that gave this place its name still exists.
The Dato Kramat Market is built in the
Art Deco style. Today it still functions as one of the main markets in town, despite its relatively small size.

Getting there
Coming here by car will be a problem, as parking space is very limited - you can try to find some along Jalan Utama, near the
Penang General Hospital, some
10 minutes walk away. It is a better idea to use the bus.
Rapid Penang Bus
201,
202,
203 and
204 pass through here.
