Jalan Deva Pada road sign (25 November 2010)
Deva Pada Road (Traditional/Simplified Chinese: 蒂哇路), known today as Jalan Deva Pada, is a minor road in
George Town, Penang. It is one of the roads branching off from
Nirvana Road.
As with many of the roads in the neighbourhood, Deva Pada Road derives its name from Buddhism. According to Wisdom Library (www.wisdomlib.org),
devapada sutta is defined as the four paths of Buddhism that lead to the devas, namely unwavering loyalty to the Buddha, to the Dhamma, to the Sangha and the cultivation of virtues dear to the Ariyans.
Getting there
Deva Pada Road is not served by bus. The nearest bus stop is along
Perak Road (
Rapid Penang bus 10). From there, enter
Lim Eow Thoon Road, then turn right to
Nirvana Road, and eventually you will arrive at the junction with Deva Pada Road on your right.
