DiGi Building, Beach Street, George Town (4 April 2010)

The
DiGi Building is a historic building along Beach Street in
George Town, Penang. It houses a DiGi Centre for DiGi Telecommunications, the first digital mobile communications service provider in Malaysia. Prior to that, the building also used to house a branch of Kwong Yik Bank. Judging by its appearance, it is believed to have been erected in the early 20th century, before the Art Deco style fully developed locally.
The DiGi Building today takes on the address of 29A Beach Street, though the entire building also occupies 31 and 33B Beach Street as well as 2 Church Street Ghaut. This handsome whitewashed building is partly rusticated, on the pilasters. On the upper level, it has a row of windows framed by rectangular arches.
