Jalan Dunlop, formerly known as
Dunlop Road, is a minor road in
George Town, Penang. It links
Jalan Anson with
Jalan Dato Kramat and has mostly residential terrace houses.
Dunlop Road is believed to have been named after Major Samuel Dunlop, who was acting
Resident Councillor of Penang from 1884 to 1885. In his capacity as the Inspector-General of Police, the then Colonel Samuel Dunlop was one of the attendees on the British side during the signing of the Pangkor Treaty in 1874.
In addition to Dunlop Road in Penang,
Dunlop Street in
Singapore might also be named after him.
