Eden @ Hutton Lane (GPS: 5.41942, 100.33094) is a restaurant on Hutton Lane in George Town, Penang. When it opened in 1964, it was one of the first restaurants in the country serving Western cuisine. The demand and popularity it generated led to the opening of a nearby branch, after which the two outlets were called Adam's Terrace and Eve's Gardenia.

Although the Eden franchise has since developed into the Eden group of restaurants, with outlets at KLIA and Batu Ferringhi, the original restaurant along Hutton Lane is today a faded facsimile of its former self. Due to change in taste and competition, the Hutton Lane branches have shrunk to one outlet, the one formerly known as Eve's Gardenia. Gone too are the days when long queues formed outside its door just to seek a table.

Having enjoyed many dinners at Eden when I was a child, I continue to root for this original branch that one day it will revitalise and attract the new generation.
