Eden Handicap (GPS: 5.40149, 100.30156), short for Eden Handicap Service Centre Berhad, is a Christian-run non-profit organisation of assisted-living facilities and residences. It was established on 24 May 1991 with the mission to help people with disabilities become self sufficient, by
learning basic living skills that will help them support themselves.
Eden Handicap in Penang was created according to the ideals and philosophy of Eden Social Welfare Foundation of Taiwan, an organization established by Liu Hsia, a Taiwan novelist who herself was incapacitated by rheumatic arthritis. Eden Social Welfare Foundation of Taiwan was established on 1 December, 1982, to help the disabled come out of their isolation, and become fulfilled members of society.

The person instrumental in bringing Eden to Penang was Reverend Ch'ng Joo Beng, who learned about Eden Taiwan when he was studying there to come a pastor. Rev. Ch'ng was himself a former drug dependent who managed to turn his life around after undergoing rehab at The Hiding Place, a Christian drug rehabilitation centre. There he met Bertie Tye, then a staff of the centre. Bertie provided Ch'ng the impetus to found Eden Handicap.
Eden Handicap was started on 24 May, 1991. It was initially housed at 1 Jalan Sir Hussein, Bertie's childhood home. His mother sold the property to the organisation for a token amount to get the work started.
