View of the Muda River from Ekor Kuching, Penang. Across the river is Kedah, and a short distance in the opposite direction is also Kedah. (22 July 2015)
Ekor Kuching (GPS: 5.54358, 100.52584) is a place to the south of the
Muda River. It straddles the boundary of Penang and Kedah, which cuts through the area, so there is Ekor Kuching in Penang and a larger section of Ekor Kuching in Kedah. The nearest village is Kampung Terat Batu, which means "boundary stone village". The Ekor Kuching of Penang falls under the
Tasek Gelugor postal jurisdiction.
The Ekor Kuching of Penang forms a narrow strip between the Muda River and the Kedah boundary. On this strip, Kedah is on both the west and east side of Penang. On this piece of land in 1821, the Siamese and British erected a boundary stone to mark their agreed boundary. That
British-Siamese Boundary Stone is still standing today.
Standing on the bank of the Muda River in Penang, you can look across to Pantai Prai in Kedah. Behind you is a country path which is again the border between Kedah and Penang.
My friend Michael and I are standing on the border between Kedah and Penang. Michael is in Kedah while I am in Penang. (22 July 2015)
