Penang Eng Tai Association, Toh Aka Lane (11 February 2013)
Eng Tai Association, or
Eng Tai Kuan 永大館, is a Chinese
clan association at
Lorong Toh Aka in
George Town, Penang. The architecture of this association is proof that in George Town, even in the narrowest of alleyways has something interesting to offer those who care to explore. Located on the left side of Toh Aka Lane as you enter from Beach Street, the Penang Eng Tai Hoay Kuan is a clan association for two Hakka dialect groups, those from the Eng Teng and the Tai Pu districts. The association was founded in 1840.
Toh Aka Lane connects to the back lane of the
Acheen Street Mosqueon one side while another connects to Malay Street. Here are a row of shophouses belonging to members of the
Cheah Kongsi.
