Trail Details

The walking trail has a total length of 2129 meters (2.129 km). The best time to see the murals is in the morning, when George Town has not yet heated up.

Distance between Murals

Note: Mural 3 is expunged (no longer there), so you might want to go straight to Mural 4. Nevertheless I show its location as you will be passing through the site.

The map below shows the trail covered. Each mural site is numbered in sequence, with the route from one to the other plotted out. This helps you cover all the murals at the shortest time with as little turning back as possible.

Updates on the Zacharevic Murals

February 2016 Due to weathering of the elements some of the murals have deteriorated. At time of writing, Zacharevic has touched up four of the murals (Little Children on a Bicycle, Reaching Up, Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur, and Boy on a Bike). I will update here if he should touch up the rest of the murals.

The Route

Jalan Penang - Lebuh Muntri - Lorong Love - Lebuh Chulia - Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling - Lebuh Cannon - Lebuh Armenian - Lorong Soo Hong - Lebuh Ah Quee - Gat Lebuh Armenian - Chew Jetty.

Start of Walking Trail

The walking trail of Ernest Zacharevic murals starts with The Awaiting Trishaw Paddler . You can reach this spot by various means, including by taking the Free Rapid Penang CAT Shuttle Bus to Bus Stop No 7 on the route. From there, the mural is just in front of you. If you go in the morning part of the day, you will have the sun illuminating the mural (in the late afternoon it will be under shadow).

From Penang Road, turn left into Muntri Street. Cross the intersection of Leith Street and continue heading east on Muntri Street until you reach Little Girl in Blue, which is on the wall, on the right side of the road, facing the Penang Goldsmith Association. Continue east on Muntri Street until it is intersected by Love Lane. Turn right and head south on Love Lane till you near the junction with Chulia Street, and you will see Broken Heart on your right. Distance from to is approximately 823 ft.

From Love Lane, turn left into Chulia Street. Go along Chulia Street until the traffic lights intersection with Pitt Street, then turn right heading south on Pitt Street. At intersection with Armenian Street, continue south on Cannon Street until you see Reaching Up mural on the wall on your right. Distance from to is approximately 1820 ft.

Turn back, go along Cannon Street until you return to the intersection with Armenian Street. In front of you is This Old Man. Distance from to is only approximately 340 ft.

Continue east along Armenian Street until junction with Soo Hong Lane. Turn left, follow Soo Hong Lane until it reaches Ah Quee Street. Turn right on Ah Quee Street and continue, past Pitt Lane, until you reach Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur on the wall to your left. Distance from to is only approximately 877 ft.

A short distance (40 ft) from is Boy on a Bike Continue down Ah Quee Street till junction with Beach Street. Turn right, head southwest on Beach Street till you reach the intersection with Armenian Street to your right. You will see Little Children on a Bicycle, on the wall to the right. Distance from to is only approximately 435 ft.

Turn back and return to the intersection with Beach Street. Cross the road and continue down Armenian Street Ghaut, past the intersection of Victoria Street, until you reach Weld Quay. Cross the road again and enter Chew Jetty. Walk down the plankway until you reach Children in a Boat, the last mural on this walking trail. Distance from to is only approximately 1295 ft.
