Krujë is a town in north-central Albania. It is located at an elevation of 600 m (1,969 ft), between the Krujë mountain and the river Ishëm, about 20 km from Tirana. The city has a population of around 16,000 people (2011 estimate). It observes the Central European Time, which is an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1), and two hours ahead during Daylight Saving Time in summer.

The history of Krujë goes back to ancient times, when it was inhabited by the Illyrian tribe of Albani. The area was later captured by the Roman Republic. In 1190 it became the capital of the first autonomous Albanian state. In the 13th and 14th century, it was under the rule of the Byzantine empire and then the Serbian Empire. It was captured by the Ottomans for the first time in 1395, and over the next decade captured by various forces. It was reconquered by the Ottomans in 1478.

In the early 20th century, Krujë was at the center of the anti-Ottoman movement. It was occupied by the Italians during the Second World War, followed by the Nazis, before being liberated by the National Liberation Movement of Albania at the end of 1944.
