Sarandë has a population of around 30,000 people (2011 estimate). It observes the Central European Time, which is an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1), and two hours ahead during Daylight Saving Time in summer.
Sarandë was known as Onchesmos during the time of antiquity. It was inhabited by the Chaonians, a tribe of ancient Greeks. During that period, it became a port city for the Chaonian capital, Phoenice.
Sarandë was ruled by the Ottomans from the 15th century until the early 20th century. In 1913 it was occupied by Greece. Then in 1939, Italian forces also occupied and annexed the city. The city was captured by the Greeks again in 1940 during the Greco-Italian War.
Visiting Sarandë
You can reach Sarandë by taking a ferryboat from Corfu in Greece. If you are arriving from Tirana, you can take a bus, taxi van or taxi to reach it.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
