Stoclet House, or Palais Stoclet, is a house in Brussels, Belgium. It was designed by Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann for banker and art collector Adolphe Stoclet. Built between 1905 and 1911, with no expenses spared, Stoclet House is considered a profound conceptual and stylistic renewal of the Art Nouveau, and the most accomplished and homogenous buildings of the Vienna Secession. The house was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Seville, Spain from 22 to 30 June, 2009.

The World Heritage Committee praised Stoclet House for its aesthetic and conceptual embodiment of Gesamtkunstwerk ("total work of art"), through the exceptional quality of its decoration, its furnishing, its works of art and its garden. Its location in Brussels made it highly influential in the birth of modernism in architecture, which leads to the introduction of the Art Deco style.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
