High Coast of Sweden and Kvarken Archipelago in Finland is an area on the Gulf of Bothnia, which is an extension on the northern part of the Baltic Sea.

There are approximately 5,600 islands in the Kvarken Archipelago. The islands feature a landscape of unusual ridged washboard moraines which was formed by the melting of continental ice sheet between 10,000 to 24,000 years ago. The archipelago is still rising from the sea due to glacio-isostatic uplift.

The High Coast of Sweden has a landscape characterized by glaciation, glacial retreat and the emergence of new land from the sea. Since the retreat of the ice 9,600 years ago, the uplift which is 285 meters is the highest known rebound. Together, the High Coast of Sweden and the Kvarken Archipelago of Finland provide the opportunity to understand the processes that cause glaciated and land uplift.

High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 24th session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Cairns, Australia, on 27 November - 2 December, 2000.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
