Aquitaine is one of the 26 regions of France located on the southwestern part of Metropolitan France. It faces the Bay of Biscay to the west, and borders Poitou-Charentes to the north, Limousin to the northeast, Midi-Pyrénées to the east and Spain to the south.
Aquitaine covers 41,308 sq km (15,949 sq mi) and has a population of around 3.2 million people. The region has a GDP of €85.9 billion in 2007.

The Aquitaine region has seen human habitation going back to prehistoric time. The earliest people were an Iberian tribe known as the Aquitani. Aquitania was created following Caesar's conquest of Gaul.

Autoroute A10 takes you from Paris to Bordeaux in Aquitaine. Also called L'Aquitaine, it runs 549 km from Paris to Bordeaux.
