Beaune is a town in the district of Côte d'Or, in Burgundy, France. It is regarded as the wine capital of the region, the town where the annual wine auction takes place. The town itself is surrounded by some of the finest vineyards and wine-producing villages of the world. It is 31 sq km (12 sq mi) is size, and has a population of 22,000 people (2012 estimate).
Human habitation in the Beaune area goes back to pre-Roman times. The Romans also left their mark in the area. The old town of Beaune is well-preserved, with a city wall, ramparts and moat. Nonetheless it isn't really a tourist town as one connected with the wine industry.
How to go to Beaune
The high-speed TGV train makes a stop at Beaune from Dijon and Lyon.
