Blois is the capital of the Loir-et-Cher department in the region of Centre, France. It covers 37.46 sq km (14.46 sq mi) and has a population of 46,000 (2012 estimate).
Blois traces its beginnings to the 6th century, when it was mentioned by Gregory of Tours. The town was used as a base by Joan of Arc in 1429 for the relief operations of Orléans.
By the 16th century, the people of Blois who included many Calvinists saw themselves fighting against the Catholic Church. The bishopric is seated at the Blois Cathedral.
Blois suffered severe bombings during the Second World War. It was occupied by the Nazis in 1940 and liberated by the Americans on August 1944.

How to go to Blois
Blois is located between Orléans to the northeast and Tours to the southwest. Take the A10 (E5) expressway to reach it from either cities.
