Ajaccio is a town on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. It is also the capital and largest city in Corsica. Ajaccio covers 82.03 sq km (31.67 sq mi) and has a population of 65,000 people (2012 estimate).
Ajaccio is on the west coast of Corsica. It is about 210 nautical miles (390 km) to the southeast of Marseille. Among the tourist sights in the city includes the fort or citadel on a peninsula. It once protected the harbor. The house where Napoleon Bonaparte was born in 1769 has also been preserved. The landmark church in the city is Ajaccio Cathedral, or officially the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption d'Ajaccio, seat of the Bishop of Ajaccio.

You can fly to Ajaccio from various major cities in France. The island of Corsica also receives ferry services from Nice, Toulon and Marseille.
