Limousin is the name of a region as well as a province in France. This page is about the region called Limousin. It is located in central France, and is composed of three départements namely Corrèze, Creuse and the Haute-Vienne. The region of Limousin covers 16,942 sq km (6,541.3 sq mi) and has a population of 727,000. It is the least populated region on mainland France. The capital and largest city in Limousin is Limoges.

The region of Limousin is bordered by Centre to the north, Auvergne to the east, Midi-Pyrénées to the south, Aquitaine to the southwest and Poitou-Charentes to the west.
Limousin is a rural part of France. It is where you can view the quintessential French rural landscape. The region is one of the major producers of beef in the country, and on a trip through Limousin you are likely to see herds of brown-colored Limousin cattle.

Limousin is quite hot and damp during summer, with temperatures regularly exceeding 30°C. On the other hand it snows during winter.
The local speciality of Limousin is
pâté aux pommes de terre. This is a potato pie made with potato slices and
crème fraiche, and based in the oven.
