Mâcon is a town in the district of Saône-et-Loire, in Burgundy, France. It covers 27 sq km (10 sq mi) and has a population of 35,000 people (2012 estimate).
Human settlement in the Mâcon area has been traced to the Celtic period, around the first century BC. At that time, it was known as Matisco. It grew during Roman rule and by the 4th century, was a walled town.
How to go to Mâcon
The train station in Mâcon receives only local trains while the other train station located about 10 km out of town receives the high-speed TGV trains from Paris and Lyon. If going by road, take the A6 expressway heading north out of Lyon.
