Midi-Pyrénées is a region of France on the southern part of the country. Covering 45,348 sq km (17,509 sq mi), it is the biggest region of metropolitan France in terms of area, being bigger than the Netherlands and Denmark. However it has a low population compared to other regions of France, with only 2.9 million inhabitants (2011 estimate).

Midi-Pyrénées is bordered by Aquitaine to the west, Limousin and Auvergne to the north, and Languedoc-Roussillon to the east. Bordering Midi-Pyrénées to the south is the border of Spain.

The name Midi-Pyrénées was created by the central French government to describe the geographical location, Midi for "southern France" and Pyrénées for the mountain range in the area. As with the rest of France, Midi-Pyrénées observes the Central European Time, which is an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1) and two hours ahead during Daylight Saving Time in summer.

Midi-Pyrénées was created from parts of different former French provinces, the majority from Gascony, followed by Languedoc, Rouergue, Quercy, the County of Foix, Couserans, Nébouzan, Quatre-Vallées and Bigorre. Apart from the city of Toulouse, much of Midi-Pyrénées is sparsely populated. Just an hour out of Toulouse one arrives in the rural parts of Midi-Pyrénées.

Visiting Midi-Pyrénées

The city of Toulouse is your gateway to Midi-Pyrénées. You can fly to the Blagnac Airport, about 20 minutes from the city center. There are also TGV high-speed trains from Paris (journey takes about 5 hours).

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
