Paray-le-Monial is a small town in the district of Saône-et-Loire, in Burgundy, France. It straddles the river Bourbince. The town occupies 25 sq km (10 sq mi) and has a population of 9,500 people (2012 estimate).
Paray-Le-Monial was originally just Paray until the 10th century, when it was given the "surname" Le Monial by the monks of the Benedictine priory. The town centers on the Romanesque church of Sacré-Coeur, also called the Basilica of Paray-le-Monial.
How to go to Paray-le-Monial
From Lyon, take the A6 expressway heading north till Mâcon, then continue northwest on the N79 highway to reach Paray-le-Monial.
