Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Former Abbey of Saint-Remi and Palace of Tau are World Heritage Sites in Reims, France. Reims is an important town with a prominent ceremonial role in the French monarchical history. It is where French kings are crowned. The Cathedral of Reims, playhing a role similar to Westminster Abbey, is where coronations took place.

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims is a Roman Catholic cathedral where the kings of France were once crowned. The present cathedral replaces an older church that was destroyed by fire, which until then had been standing on the site since 1211. The older church stood on the site of a basilica where Clovis, the first King of the Franks, was baptised by Saint Remi in AD 496. The cathedral is still the seat of the Archdiocese of Reims.

The Abbey of Saint-Remi was founded in the 6th century. It holds the relics of the saint who died in AD 553. The present basilica was consecrated by Pope Leo IX in AD1049. Its nave and transepts are the oldest part of the church.

The Palace of Tau was the palace of the Archbishop of Reims. It is located near the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, where French kings were coronated. The site of the palace was where a Gallo Roman villa had stood since the 6th and 7th centuries. The oldest part of the palace is the chapel, which dates from 1207. The palace was rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1498 and 1509. The present Baroque appearance was the work of Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte in 1671 and 1710.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
