Riom is a town in the district of Puy-de-Dôme, in Auvergne, France. It covers 32 sq km (12 sq mi) and has a population of 19,000 people (2012 estimate).
The history of Rion goes back to the time of Gaul. During Roman occupation, it was known as Ricomagus. The Church of Saint Amabilis is said to have been established i8n the 10th century, and the present town developed around it.
Riom was the seat of the dukes of Auvergne during the French Revolution. During to its important rule in history, it was given the recognition as Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (Town of Art and History) in 1985, when sixteen of its historic sights were gazetted.
How to go to Riom
Located to the north of Clermont-Ferrand, Riom can be reached from there by taking the A71 (E70) expressway heading north.
