Cuxhaven is a seaside town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is at the mouth of the Elbe River. The town covers 162 sq km (63 sq mi) and has a population of 50,000 people (2012 estimate).
Cuxhaven was given city status in 1907, when it was still part of the state limits of Hamburg. In 1937, it was detached from Hamburg to become part of Prussia, and today part of Lower Saxony.
How to go to Cuxhaven
You can take a train from Hamburg. There is the Happy Weekend Ticket which allows five people to travel together for a total price of just €37.
