Dresden Elbe Valley is a World Heritage Site that was inscribed in 2004 and delisted in 2009. The cultural landscape of the 18th and 19th century extends for 18 kilometers along the river from Übigau Palace and Ostragehege fields in the north-west to the Pillnitz Palace and the Elbe River Island in the south-east.

The historic centre of Dresden along with Pillnitz Palace are some of the main historic sites, along with suburban villas and gardens from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are vineyards along the Dresden Elbe Valley slopes. Other attractions include structures from the industrial revolution, among them the 147-meter Blue Wonder steel bridge, built in 1891-93, the suspension cable railway, built in 1898-1901, and the funicular, built between 1894-95. There are also passenger steamships plying the river, the oldest of which dates from 1879 and is still in use today.

Dresden Elbe Valley was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 28th session of the World Heritage Committee in Suzhou, China, 28 June - 7 July, 2004.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
