Freiberg is a town and administrative center for Mittelsachsen district, in Saxony, Germany. It covers 48 sq km (19 sq mi) and has a population of 41,500 people (2012 estimate). Located in the Ore Mountains, it was formerly a mining town. It has the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world.

Today the old town of Freiberg contains many well-preserved historical buildings. It is renowned for having two Gottfried Silbermann organs, one at the Jacobikirche and the other at Petrikirche. The town celebrated an annual Mining Town Festival or Bergstadtfest on the last weekend of June.

How to go to Freiberg

Freiberg is between Dresden and Chemnitz. The main expressway between these two cities is Autobahn 4. There are several country highways connecting the Autobahn with Freiberg.
