Freising is a small city in southeastern Bavaria, Germany. It is located by the banks of the river Isar, near the Munich International Airport, to the north of downtown Munich. Freising covers 88.45 sq km (34.15 sq mi) and has a population of 45,000 (2011 estimate). It is on an average elevation of 448 m (1,470 ft). The city observes the Central European Time, which is an hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1), and two hours ahead during Daylight Saving Time of summer.
Freising is said to be one of the oldest settlements in Bavaria. Archaeological excavations have revealed settlements going back to the Bronze Age. However, there is no evidence of continuous habitation of the area until the 8th century, when Saint Corbinian settled there.
The symbol of the city is that of a saddled bear. According to legend, Bishop Arbeo ordered the bear to carry his luggage over the Alps after it killed his packhorse. Since the early days, Freising was a religious center until the secularization of 1803, when the Roman Catholic Church lost most of its properties and authority over the city. Nevertheless, its cathedral remains one of the major landmarks of the city.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
