Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is a garden in Saxony-Anhalt that was inscribed in 2000 as a World Heritage Site. The garden stands as an example of landscape design during the Age of Enlightenment, with was the 18th century. Also known as the English Grounds of Wörlitz, it is the first and largest English-style parks in Germany and in continental Europe.

The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz was the work of Duke Leopold III of Anhalt-Dessau. He was inspired to create the garden after returning from a tour that took him to Italy, the Netherlands, England, France and Switzerland. Together with his friend, architect Friedrich Wilheim von Erdmannsdorff, he wanted to create a garden that moves away from the formal gardens of the Baroque period, to one that is more naturalistic, as in the Stourhead Gardens and Ermenonville.

Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 24th session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Cairns, Australia, on 27 November - 2 December, 2000.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
