Hanover (German: Hannover) is the capital and largest city in Lower Saxony. Located on the River Leine, Hanover has a population of slightly over half a million. It is famous as a site for annual trade fairs such as the Hanover Fair and the CeBIT. Oktoberfest Hannover is the second largest Oktoberfest in the world, after the one in Munich.

Hanover was founded as a small fishermen's village. By the 13th century, it has become a moderate-size town, due partly to its position as a natural crossroad via the River Leine.

In 1636, the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg moved to Hanover. His descendants would later become the monarchs of Great Britain, starting with King George I in 1714 and ending with Queen Victoria who died in 1901.

Hanover was greatly destroyed during the Second World War. After the war, the old houses still standing around the city were collected and reassembled in the Old City.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
