Hof is a small city in northeastern Bavaria, Germany. The city covers 58 sq km (22.4 sq mi) and has a population of 46,000 (2011 estimate). Located on an average elevation of 470-600 m, Hof is near the border with the Czech Republic.
Hof traces its beginnings to 1080, when it was originally known as Rekkenze. The earliest date of a settlement in the area was first mentioned in 1214. Not much is known about Hof in the early centuries. It became part of Prussia in 1792.
In 1989, the railway station in Hof saw an influx of East German immigrants demanding the right to travel and emigrate to West Germany.

You can take a train to Hof from Regensburg, Bamberg or Leipzig. There are also flights from Frankfurt to Hof Airport.
