Meldorf is a small town in the district of Dithmarschen, on the western part of Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany. It covers 21 sq km (8 sq mi) and has a population of around 7,500 people (2012 estimate).
Although just a hamlet today, Meldorf has existed for centuries. It was the capital of Dithmarschen at the time of the Hanseatic League. The city was ransacked by King John of the Kalmar Union in 1500, and has never regained its former glory.
How to go to Meldorf
From Hamburg, take Autobahn 23 heading northwest until interchange with Highway 431. Take Highway 431 heading west to reach Meldorf.
