Merzig is the district capital of Merzig-Wadern, in the state of Saarland, in central western Germany. It covers 109 sq km (42 sq mi) and has a population of 30,000 people (2012 estimate). The river Saar flows through the town.

The city of Merzig was established in 1974 when the town of Merzig was merged with the 16 surrounding municipalities. The town is best known as the birthplace of tennis player Boris Becker.

From Saarbrücken, take Autobahn 620, continuing on Autobahn 8 after Saarlouis to reach Merzig.
