Schwerin is the state capital and second-largest city in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It covers 130 sq km (50 sq mi) and has a population of 95,000 people (2012 estimate).
Schwerin is located in a part of Germany with many scenic lakes, the largest of which, Schweriner See, is 60 sq km in size. The city traces its history to a settlement established in the 11th century. In the old days, it was known as Zuarin.

Following the Second World War, Schwerin became part of the Soviet Occupation Zone, and thereafter became part of the German Democratic Republic until reunification in 1990, when the former state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was re-established. Schwerin was made the capital over Rostock, another contender for the position.
How to go to Schwerin
From Hamburg, take Autobahn 24 heading east till interchange with Highway 321. Take Highway 321 heading north to reach Schwerin.
