Speyer Cathedral is a cathedral of the Archdiocese of Bamberg and seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer, in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its official name is the Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen. It was raised to the rank of minor basilica by Pope Pius XI in 1925.
Speyer Cathedral was built by Conrad II, the Holy Roman Emperor, in AD 1030. Its triple-aisle design, finished in red sandstone had a big influence on the development of Romanesque architecture in the 11th and 12th centuries. Speyer Cathedral is the burial site of a number of German kings and emperors and is regarded as a symbol of imperial power. It is the largest Romanesque church after the Abbey of Cluny, which was destroyed in 1790.
Speyer Cathedral was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 5th session of the World Heritage Committee in Sydney, Australia, on 26-30 October, 1981.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
