Stralsund is a town in the state of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. It is located on the coast of the Strelasund, the sound of the Baltic Sea between the island of Rügen and the mainland. Stralsund covers 39 sq km (15 sq mi) and has a population of 58,000 people (2012 estimate). Since September 2011, it is today the district capital of Vorpommern-Rügen District.
The town of Stralsund is connected to the island of Rügen by the Strelasund Crossing, which comprises the Rügen Bridge (completed in 2007) and the Rügen Causeway (completed in 1937).
Today the Brick Gothic historic center of Stralsund is a UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled
Historic Centres of Stralsund and Wismar.

Lubeck, take Autobahn 20 (E22) heading east, continuing on Highway 96n heading north to reach Stralsund.
