Weeze is a small town in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the western part of Germany. The town is within Kleve district, in Düsseldorf region. Weeze is 79.49 sq km (30.69 sq mi) and has a population of 10,700 (2011 estimate). The majority of its population are Roman Catholics (72%). It is just a short distance from the Netherlands.
Weeze is located on the banks of the River Niers, which is nothing more than a stream running along the northern part of the Lower Rhine Region. The landscape is one of green forested hills dotted with medieval castles, with country roads winding their way through the area.

Visiting Weeze
Take Autobahn 57 (E31 expressway) until Exit 3 (Goch), then head south on the B9 trunk road (Gocher Str.) until you reach Weeze.
Places of Interest in Weeze
Hertefeld Haus Manor house now in a semi-state of ruin following World War II bombing. Built in the late Baroque style, it dates to the 14th century.
Kalbeck Castle Located in a large wooded area, this castle to the north of Weeze has a history going back to 1326. Its present form dates to 1909, when it was rebuilt by Baron Friedrich von Vittinghoff-Schell in the style of 18th century Westphalian moated castles.
Wissen Castle (Schloss Wissen) While dating back to the 14th century, this castle has undergone a number of rebuilding, and is today primarily in the neo-Gothic style. It is located on the B9 trunk road south of Weeze.
