Go BackHumans have been living in the Agios Nikolaos area since the late Bronze Age. Its location made it a choice site for a harbor. The town was named after Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors in Greece.
The present municipality of Agios Nikolaos was only formed in 2011 when three former municipalities were merged.
