The
Periphery of Attica (Αττική), by modern definition, is a region of Greece that includes Athens, several islands, and a portion of
Peloponnesus. The periphery covers 3,808 sq km (1,470 sq mi) and has a population exceeding 4 million people (2011 estimate). It was named after the Attica peninsula. To the north is the Kithairon mountain range, while to the west is the sea and the canal of Corinth.
The Saronic Gulf is on the southern part of Attica. Of the north and eastern coasts is the island of Euboea. Within Attica, the longest river is the Cephisus while the highest mountain is Parnitha.
