Chania (Greek: Χανιά) is the second biggest city in Crete, Greece. It covers 12.56 sq km (5 sq mi) and has a population of 66,000 people (2012 estimate). It is located on the north coast of Crete, about 145 km (90 mi) to the west of Heraklion.
Chania experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and wild, rainy winters. July is the hottest month, when average high temperature reaches 30.3°C (86.5°F). January is the coldest month, when the average low temperature drops to 7.5°C (45.5°F). It is also the wettest month, with 141.7 mm (5.579 in) of rain.
Today Chania is one of the most charming towns in Crete. Although it suffered from heavy bombardment during the Second World War, most of its buildings have since been restored. In the heart of town is Eleftherios Venezelos, the central square. The Old Town has been inhabited since Neolithic times. To the northwest of the Old Town is the Jewish quarter. The harbor and seafront area is a good place to walk about and enjoy the scenery of the town.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
