Delphi (Greek: Δελφοί) is a major archaeological site and modern town in
Central Greece. The archaeological site is today a World Heritage Site under the title
Archaeological Site of Delphi.
Delphi is famous as home of the Delphic oracle. It is also the site for the worship of the Greek god Apollo. It was here, in Apollo's sacred precint, that beginning in 776 BC, athletes from all over the Greek world competed in the Pythian Games, the precursor of the Modern Olympic games. Many of the ruins in Delphi today are related to the worship of Apollo.
